Irritation
lies
It’s there
just below the surface
just behind
the thin veil of
smiles
normalcy
gritted teeth
between the factions
lies the uncomfortable
demilitarized zone
pock marked and scarred
from the constant barrage
from both sides now
and through the smiles
and scars
and bomb craters
the irritation
at the lies
lies
buried
just beneath
the thinly drawn veil
but the veil is thin
and warn
and worn
and won’t hold long
Captain, the shields are failing
and when it fails
and fail it will
the neutral zone
will no longer bring protection
