I am not my country

With mortification I hereby proclaim
I am not my country

Blue lives matter
Black lives matter
Women’s lives matter
Muslim lives matter
ALL freaking lives matter
but it doesn’t matter
divisiveness and hypocrisy reign

I am not my country

It’s us or them?
Us is them
don’t you see
you’re doing exactly
what this country was founded
to protect against

I am not my country

Icy hands grasp
beautiful hearts
as they fear
for their, their family, those they love
safety
health
future

I am not my country

Blind fear
creeps cross the land
pushed on
by
those who can’t see
past their own
insecurities

Light a candle to beat back the dark
I am not my country

Protesters march
people taking up the cry
Peaceful rallies
riots rampant in cities
death and destruction
all in the name
of peace

I am not my country

I will stay by your side
I will hold your hand
and be your friend
all lives matter
as sadness reigns through the land
anger and hate
have no place here
I am not my country
Tear down the walls
and bridges build
lit with hope
